Oregon
County, located in South Central Missouri, was officially organized
on 14 February 1845. Oregon County is bordered on
the south by Arkansas (Randolph, Sharp and Fulton Counties), on the
north by Shannon County, on the east by Ripley County, and on the west
by Howell County. Oregon County was named for the Oregon Territory
in the northwestern United States. Alton is the county seat.
In 2000 the county population was 10,344 in a land area of 791 square
miles.
